Buck Pittman, ASLA
President, Pittman Landscape Architecture
Buck is a Registered Landscape Architect and has been in continual practice since moving to Jacksonville, Florida in 1994. He has maintained a professional registration in Florida since 1997. In that time he has worked on hundreds of projects, large and small, and for both public and private sector clients. His passion is especially rooted in a site design approach based on ecological principles and in discovering the genius loci for each site. His creative and thoughtful designs flow from these two principles, resulting in sensible products that are aesthetically pleasing and ecologically appropriate.
Buck is also an ISA-Certified Arborist. His understanding of tree physiology complements his design background and gives him a unique approach toward site design, especially regarding tree use and preservation. His certification also qualifies him to prepare tree evaluation reports for municipalities that require tree mitigation. These reports supplement tree surveys and characterize
a tree’s physical condition. Tree mitigation expenses are very often reduced through this evaluation process.
Background
Since moving to Jacksonville, Buck has been an active volunteer of his time and talent. He recently completed six years of service as a commissioner on the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission, serving as chairman and vice-chairman. Buck has served on the board of directors and the advisory council of JaxPride a local coalition for visual enhancement of Jacksonville, since 1997.
Buck is an active outdoorsman and canoeist, continuing to appreciate the beauty of nature and the process of ecology firsthand. He is also holds the rank of Shodan in Aikido and practices and teaches weekly at the Aikido Center of Jacksonville.
